Linda "Pro Kid" Mkhize (22 June 1981 – 8 August 2018) was a groundbreaking South African rapper and producer from Klipspruit, Soweto. Known for his unique blend of Tsotsi Taal and English, Pro Kid is celebrated as a pioneer of kasi rap and a major influence in SA hip hop—paving the way for artists like Red Button, K.O, A.KA, Kwesta, and his younger brother DJ Citilyts. His rise to fame began with the 2005 hit single "Soweto," an ode to his birthplace, followed by the popular "Wozobona." These successes led to his debut album, Heads & Tales, and were further solidified by classic projects such as DNA, Snakes & Ladders, Continua, and Dankie San. Pro Kid earned numerous accolades from the HYPE Awards and Channel O Music Video Awards. Tragically, Pro Kid's journey was cut short on 8 August 2018, after a seizure in Johannesburg CBD. His legacy, however, continues to inspire and influence South African music.
