HAE attacks cause swelling in different body parts, including hands, feet, genitals, abdomen, and face. Severe cases can lead to airway swelling, making breathing difficult and requiring emergency intervention. Attacks may be triggered by emotional stress or trauma but often occur without a known cause even when prophylactic treatments are being used. Guidelines recommend early treatment for all attacks.
