This channel is all about raising awareness for leukodystrophy called vanishing white matter disease (VWM) ~ while searching to find a cure...! Terminology VWM/CACH :"Raphael Schiffmann, MD at NIH described the disease initially in 1994 and called it CACH (Childhood Ataxia with CNS Hypomyelination). Dr. van der Knaap described similar patients 2 years later. Initially she adopted the NIH name but then decided to called it VWM. Her group did find the gene in 2000." VWM/CACH is one of 40 leukodystrophies..Vanishing White Matter Disease (VWM) is a degeneration of the brain. Currently there is no cure for VWM. We are in race against time to Find a Cure for VWM ! Time is not on our side; most children born with this genetic disease die at an early age. Research efforts are greatly underfunded and there is little awareness.
