The Mach Initiative aims to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest jet-powered model aircraft, currently 465 mph (Mach 0.62). Over the last 18 months, we’ve taken an experimental approach to designing our record-attempt aircraft, Kingfisher. On weekends, we flew multiple sub-scale electric prototypes, using them as testbeds to refine Kingfisher’s aerodynamics, avionics, modular 3D-printed design, and flight handling. We crashed several aircraft along the way — but each one fed valuable lessons into the final jet-powered design. In January 2026, we finally flew the full-scale jet for the first time after years of work, clocking 205 mph on the maiden flight and landing in one piece.
