KAND The Istanbul based project KAND uses improvised minimal jazz as an art of conversation. Ceyhun Kaya’s characteristic melodies on the soprano saxophone and clarinet pave the way for the story telling voice of Ali Pourmand, forming ancient and modern Persian poetry into a dialogue with the bass of Payam Ghasemi. The three share their space like equal partners in a symposium, listening, reacting to each other and expressing their thoughts through word and sound. Their discussions reflect their origins and the way they see the world around them, a never-ending negotiation of modes, moods, rhythms and feelings between East and West, between silence and sound, between nature and the City – KAND.
