The Mars Volta - Topic
The Mars Volta is an American progressive rock group formed in El Paso, Texas in 2001. The band was formed by Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocalist) and Omar Rodríguez-López (guitarist), who were former members of the post-hardcore band At The Drive-In. The Mars Volta's debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. The album was produced by Rick Rubin and featured guest appearances from Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance and was certified Gold in the US. The Mars Volta was one of the most influential groups of the 2000s, with their unique blend of progressive rock and Latin influences. They are often cited as one of the most important bands of the post-hardcore era and have inspired many bands that followed them. Their influence can be heard in the work of modern bands such as Coheed and Cambria, Circa Survive and Portugal. The Man. The band's legacy continues to live on through their music and influence.
