It is dedicated to the Uttarakhand State, as a Public Service Broadcaster of India. Doordarshan's interim set up was established in Dehradun (at block development office ,Tapovan Road, Dehradun) during its inception in 2001 with mere programme generation facilities but It had started a one hour transmission from 1st June' 2006, two hours from 2007 and 6 hours from March 2019. 1st April 2020 is the landmark day for DD Uttarakhand when the commencement of its 24x7 services started . DD Uttarakhand is located now in Dehradun in its own building from 2016.
